Trade Ministers from the 21 APEC member economies will convene in Hanoi on 20-21 May to take next steps towards freer Asia-Pacific trade that secures the advantages of globalization while safeguarding the welfare of people hurt by it in the past. Trade officials will lay a path for progress during policy development meetings there over the preceding two weeks.

On 4 May, FCA members and all interested parties are invited to hear from APEC Secretariat Executive Director Dr Alan Bollard who will give a briefing on these critical developments for trade and growth in the region, and preview the APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade Meeting and related policy work that will lead the way forward. Dr Bollard will also take audience questions. Reinie Booysen of Bloomberg News, and a member of the FCA, will moderate.

In response to APEC Leaders’ call to better communicate the benefits of trade and the region’s efforts to distribute them more equitably, the event will additionally feature a dialogue on improving engagement with media and the public on these issues in the fast-changing environment. Active participation and an exchange of views by attendees are highly welcomed.

Refreshments will be provided at the event.

Chaired by Viet Nam in 2017, APEC member economies circle the Pacific Rim and account for 3 billion people, half of global trade and 60 per cent of the world economy.
