Aspiring news-hounds in Singapore once again have the chance to kickstart their career with the second running of the Dennis Bloodworth Memorial Journalism Prize. Organised by the Foreign Correspondents Association (Singapore), the competition is open to all Singapore-based applicants under the age of 30 and carries the top prize of a two-month paid-internship in the Singapore office of Bloomberg as well as S$1,500 in cash. One runner-up will also earn a two-month paid-internship with Bloomberg. Those entering the competition must write a 1,000-word news feature about Singapore that would be of interest to an international newspaper. The subject of the story this year must relate to money, business or finance. The deadline is Mar 30, 2007. Entries for the prize will be judged on the originality and strength of the idea behind the news feature. The quality of the reporting, the structure of the story and the writing style will all also be considered. The annual prize, now in its second year, was first run in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Singapores FCA. It is named after Dennis Bloodworth, who for many years was the chief Far East correspondent for the UKs Observer newspaper, a founding father of the Singapore FCA, and a celebrated author. Entries should be submitted in Word Document to fcasingapore@pacific.net.sg with the subject line: The Dennis Bloodworth Memorial Journalism Prize. Send your story and include a brief CV and details of how you can be contacted. Winners of the prize will be announced at a gala dinner to be held on April 9th this year. All entries must be original pieces of writing, and the work of the author alone. No collaborative efforts will be accepted, nor entries that have been published elsewhere. The winner will be decided by a panel of judges made up of foreign correspondents working in Singapore. Their decision is final.
