The Association was established to aid foreign correspondents based in Singapore in covering and publishing the news and to promote social and professional activities for its members.
Over the years, the Association has played an important role in leveling the playing field between the foreign and local press, and improving relations with the authorities.
The Association regularly invites speakers to address its members on a wide variety of subjects and serves as a conduit for organizations to reach the foreign press in Singapore for news events. It also holds regular social events to which non-members, particularly those in allied professions, are invited to network with members. On average, the FCA has about one or two events a month.
The FCA currently offers two types of membership:
(S$100 per year) is limited to professional journalists whose principal activity is to work in Singapore as a Correspondent or Editor for a qualified foreign news organization.
(S$200 per year) is open to full-time local journalists, foreign diplomats, and information, corporate affairs and public relations officers of companies and government agencies.
Approval for membership is at the discretion of the FCA Executive Committee whose decision shall be final. The Committee is not obliged to give any reason for its decision.
Membership is personal and non-transferable. Renewal of membership is not automatic.
There is a one-time joining fee of S$50.
FCA membership will give you access to events at special rates, as well as direct access to all our members (listed on our restricted pages).
Our ordinary membership currently stands at around 73 journalists members, including representatives from all the major news agencies as well as print and broadcast organizations such as BBC, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Agence France-Presse, Bloomberg News, CGTN, NHK, Nikkei, Thomson Reuters, The Asahi Shimbun, and ARD German Television.
Our associate membership stands at around 68 members.
