Those entering the competition must write a 1,000-word news feature about Singapore or Malaysia that would be of interest to an international newspaper. The deadline is 25 April 2008.
Entries for the prize will be judged on the originality and strength of the idea behind the news feature. The quality of the reporting, the structure of the story and the writing style will all also be considered.
The competition is open to all Singapore and Malaysian residents under the age of 30 and carries the top prize of a two-month paid-internship in the Singapore office of Bloomberg as well as S$3,000 in cash.
One runner-up will also earn a two-month paid-internship with Bloomberg.
Entries should be submitted in Word Document to fcasingapore@pacific.net.sg with the subject line: "The Dennis Bloodworth Memorial Journalism Prize." Send your story and include a brief CV and details of how you can be contacted. Winners of the prize will be announced at a gala dinner to be held on 21 May 2008.
All entries must be original pieces of writing, and the work of the author alone. No collaborative efforts will be accepted, nor entries that have been published elsewhere. The winner will be decided by a panel of judges made up of foreign correspondents working in Singapore. The panel decision is final.
The award is named after the late Dennis Bloodworth, who for many years was the chief Far East correspondent for the UK's Observer newspaper, a founding father of the Singapore FCA, and a celebrated author. This annual prize was first given in celebration of FCA Sngapore's 50th anniversary in 2006.
