PAKISTAN AFTER MUSHARRAF
How will the surprise resignation this week of Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf -- a longstanding ally in the United States' "war on terror" -- affect the battle against militants in the country's lawless tribal region bordering Afghanistan? With the US and its allies expressing mounting concern over insurgents based in Pakistan's tribal areas, and with bombings elsewhere in Pakistan, Professor Ishtiaq Ahmed offers a briefing on "Background to religious extremism in Pakistan and its role in the country's political turmoil"
