For the past 50 years, Singapore has been shaped by Lee Kuan Yew's unique imprint - so much so that critics have questioned whether the current model can outlast its chief architect. Does the system still depend on his guiding influence, or has his governance model been - for better or for worse - entrenched and institutionalised? This seminar, featuring two of Singapore's most outspoken public figures, commemorates the 50th anniversary of Singaporean self-government and Lee Kuan Yew's ascent to the premiership on 3 June 1959.
The event marks the close of the inaugural Asia Journalism Fellowship programme (www.ajf.sg) at the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, NTU. The three-month sabbatical programme for accomplished journalists from Asia is an initiative of the Temasek Foundation and the Wee Kim Wee School.
