With its designer stores a gogo, Singapore may be an international fashion hub, but is there space here for a thriving local fashion design industry? Singapore Fashion Week, primarily a trade event, will take place Aug 20-29. Singaporean designer Wykidd Song of Song+Kelly21 has agreed to discuss with us the problems facing the local fashion industry and Singapore designers. With creativity the buzzword on everybody's lips, is the government doing enough to help this industry? Does Singapore's fashion export? Song+Kelly21 has participated in New York Fashion Week, London Fashion Week and Australia Fashion week since the label was established in 1994. The label was later acquired by fashion distributor Club 21 in 2000. The company currently has two stores in Singapore and there are plans to expand the brand regionally, with Bangkok first on the radar screen.
