Dato' Ambiga Sreenevasan was among the eight recipients of this year's "International Women of Courage Award", presented by US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton in Washington in March

Ms Sreenevasan, who is the former President of the Malaysian Bar Council, has a remarkable record of accomplishment in Malaysia. She has pursued judicial reform and good governance, stood up for religious tolerance, and proven a resolute advocate of women's equality and their full political participation.

In the face of death threats and intimidation, she has emerged as a strong voice of tolerance and justice.

Ms. Ambiga Sreenevasan will discuss judicial reforms in Malaysia, confronting sexism, gender equality and religious freedom of women.

This event is jointly organized with UNIFEM.
