The Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) is currently showing Patterns of Trade: Indian Textiles for Export, 1400-1900 as well as holding an exhibition on rare Tang Dynasty (618-907) objects from the earliest and most important Arab shipwreck ever discovered in Southeast Asia. and the FCA is organizing a small visit of this exhibition with the curator.
Beyond their artistic value, these pieces also showcase the story of India as the 'powerhouse' at the centre of a global textile trade, a position it held for centuries. This was an early movement of globalisation where interaction and exchanges influenced the various countries involved, not just in textile production, but other aspects including even traditions.
