FCA is looking to organize a special media visit to the newly opened Semakau Landfill Phase II on the afternoon of Wednesday 20 April 2016.

Semakau Landfill is an intriguing concept as it provides an innovative solution to Singapore’s waste management problem in balancing waste disposal needs with conserving nature and protecting Semakau’s rich biodiversity.  Phase I which began in 1999 was recently filled up; hence the need for the development of Phase II.  One of the unique features of Phase II is the single-cell approach which maximizes landfill capacity and minimizes the volume of sand used, thus lowering the cost of construction. Another is the erection of the floating platform needed for the safe disposal of incineration ash.
