Commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Geneva Conventions

This year marks the 70th Anniversary of the 1949 Geneva Conventions. The Singapore Red Cross Society is collaborating with the Law Society of Singapore, the Law Faculty of the National University of Singapore, the National Library Board and the Embassy of Switzerland to conduct a seminar to commemorate this milestone. The seminar aims to provide the public with greater awareness of the Geneva Conventions and its relevance in the international affairs of today.

The Guest- of-Honour for seminar is Mr Edwin Tong, Senior Minister of State for Health and Law. Speakers at this seminar include the Regional Representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross; Adjunct Professor Jeffrey Chan Wah Teck, S.C.; Mr Benjamin Williams, Secretary-General of Singapore Red Cross and Mr Simon Chesterman, Dean of the Law Faculty of the National University of Singapore. There will be a panel discussion, chaired by Mr Michael Hwang S.C featuring speakers from the Swiss Embassy, the Singapore Armed Forces, the Law Society and academia. Also speaking at this seminar would be Ms Elaine Ng, Chief Executive of the National Library Board, HE Fabrice Filliez, Ambassador of Switzerland to Singapore, Ms Daphne Hong, Director-General of the International Affairs Division of the Attorney-General’s Chambers and Mr Tee Tua Ba, Chairman of the Singapore Red Cross.
