-----Original Message-----
Singapore's Foreign Interference (Countermeasures) Bill was first introduced on 13 September 2021, and is likely to have its second reading at the next parliamentary sitting in the week of 4 October 2021.

Critics say this three-week window is insufficient for Members of Parliament and Singaporeans to read and understand such a lengthy bill, much less consult with stakeholders.

Singapore says legislation to combat malignant foreign interference is necessary for national security reasons, but activists have warned it should not be seen as an excuse to concentrate power in the hands of the state.

Join us at the FCA to understand this draft bill better with:

  • Kirsten Han, Curator of the We, The Citizens newsletter, which focuses on issues dealing with Singapore from a rights-based perspective.
  • Dr Chong Ja Ian, Associate Professor of political science at the National University of Singapore. (Ph.D. from Princeton University in 2008).

The session will be moderated by FCA member, Christine Hah from BBC News.
