As Singapore gears up for its next general election and the PAP prepares the ground to secure a mandate for PM Lee Hsien Loong, what are the political challenges confronting the opposition? Dr Chee Soon Juan, who heads the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP), has agreed to talk to us on the issue. The SDP has not held any seat in parliament since 1997. While PM Lee has admitted he may not be able to repeat the strong showing of his predecessor in the last general elections, can the opposition really gain new seats this time? Dr. Chee has long been an outspoken critic of the government and was the subject of Singapore Rebel, a documentary by independent filmmaker Martyn See which was pulled out of the Singapore International Film Festival and has caused problems for See with the police. This event is for FCA members only.
